Here, you’ll question how the past is interpreted, preserved, and used to understand the world today. You’ll explore texts, artefacts, and ideas that reveal how societies lived, thought, and changed, developing the skills to connect historical knowledge to contemporary issues.

Our Facilities

You can make use of the excellent facilities and resources available on campus, including the University’s Great Central Warehouse Library. There are also impressive resources around the city, including the Tennyson Research Centre based at the ̽»¨´óÉñshire Archives, the ̽»¨´óÉñ Museum, and the International Bomber Command Centre archives. There is also the outstanding collection of medieval manuscripts and rare books housed at ̽»¨´óÉñ Cathedral’s Wren Library – a centre for philosophical study since the time of the eminent 13th Century theologian, Bishop Robert Grosseteste.

Our Conservation students can gain hands-on experience in our high-specification laboratories working on a range of historic materials provided by museums, historic houses, and private collections.
